  1. I’ll add to this because I have many hours on a 90# set of matrix lines. The coating is obviously wearing. The orange color is faded and the lines have a grittier feel than when new. There is no mistaking when you have 5 or 6 twists. I have LPG sets in my bag with 5x the flight time that feel better when they are twisted. My Skybond set hasn’t seen as much use, so I can’t compare wear, but I preferred Skybond slightly when both sets were new, and the gap has widened by a lot. (Which isn’t a fair comparison, but it is what is.)
  2. Yup, that’s the content I was looking for. When did the links change? My bookmark, and what I could quickly find on other sites, were all old adressses.
  3. I just tried to visit http://www.tweelijners.com and the site is nowhere to found. Is this recent? Permanent? Old news?
  4. I see some video that say “Dream Machine 2020 LH”, but he has been titling all his recent videos “2020 LH”. Did you see something else that made you suspect a revival?
  5. I have never had my hands on a Hydra or Kymera. I don't doubt they are nice, but I can't compare them for you. Get the Skyscraper and fly the crap out of it. After you've mastered a couple basic tricks, you will know what you like and what you don't. Then come back for suggestions on your next kite and we can help you spend your money.
  6. The Quantum is a nice kite, but slightly heavy. Not a big deal other than low wind range suffers a bit. The Widow NG (Skyscraper) probably has an edge in light winds. I’ve had an opportunity to fly both, albeit briefly, and I don’t think you would go wrong with either.
  7. Yes, very similar. The biggest change I made was to the center triangle to keep all the lines pure. I don't know how it affects performance, but I sure like the way it looks! 😄
  8. Oh, and I can provide 100% scale plans if you wanted to have it printed. It's all in CAD. My intent was to allow the weave to act as the leading edge venting rather than add mesh or strips like you've been using.
  9. Great minds think alike? I drew this up last year and never got around to building it. It's slightly different, and has less venting. All strips are 2" wide, and the basic dimensions are like a 1.5. (I adjusted the shape a little.) If you want to build it, go for it.
  10. I believe the Symphony would produce less pull at a given size. It’s a foil, but primarily designed as more of a sport kite than a traction / power kite.
  11. Properly designed and printed, you can make most parts as durable as you would ever need. To do so they are inevitably going to be overbuilt to some degree, which will increase weight. For a lot of kite parts, it’s probably not a big deal. Don’t try to make fittings for your indoor dualy or quad, though. 😉 The layering is where you loose most of the strength. A molten bead laid onto a cooler layer beneath it just can’t bond with the same integrity as a homogeneously molded part. You can improve this to a degree by doing things like dipping the part in solvent. All the layers melt a bit, flow together and then harden again. The surface is then more like a molded part. Downsides? Big bowls of nasty solvents aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, and you need to be careful not to overdo it, distorting the part.
  12. The published numbers for the kite’s wind range are very optimistic. The 15mph wind you were flying in was at the top of the kites realistic range. In that wind, you would generally try to keep the kite around the edges of the window. Shudder while flying through the middle of the window sounds about right. So, yes, I suppose it is a fair statement that your foil is much more tolerant to a wide variety of winds. I’m not personally familiar with the nexus, so I don’t think I should offer more advice on what may or may not be wrong. But some stick kites do handle a wider range than others. I would go easy on adjusting the bridle too much until you learn the kite’s traits a little better. If there are other flyers in you area, it would go a long way if you could get together.
  13. The level one Amazing is now sold as indoor or SUL versions. Level One USA doesn’t stock them, but I bet they can get them. I have the original indoor-only version which has only ever flown outdoors. 😆 If you can feel any air movement at all it flys. Just be aware that these zero wind kites take very, very different inputs than you are used to flying a STD. They are very easy to “pull out of the air.”
  14. I wish I could have them all. Reality makes me be selective. I have a standard, and am itching to pull the trigger on a Vent. They seem very rare.....
  15. A quick question for folks that have both UL and STD versions of the Deep Space. I was under the impression that there is a lot of over overlap in wind range. Care to comment on the value of having both vs one or the other?
  16. What a great story! Being old has perks, too. 😉
  17. It’s still old-school by some standards! I think of the Deep Space as being the best best of both. The charm of the “turn of the century” kites, while still being able to keep up with the new kids. 😄 It’s the last kite designed by Tim B. and Andy Wardley. The Supernova and Superfly are build by Tim, but designed by Chris Goff. They are a completely different flavor.
  18. Neither. The ultimate Benson is the Deep Space. You can get a full set with UL, STD and Vented. (I’ve heard that there is a lot of overlap with UL and STD, though.)
  19. Glad I could help. I’m an aspiring kite-builder myself. The green and white one is a slightly modified and scaled OSTK with my own panel design. The all white one is my current project ... my own design.
  20. This site spells out every step to build a sport kite in great detail: https://www.tweelijners.com/tom/tomskitesite-en/KB0.html
  21. Only the Blast is still available.
  22. Snuggly rolled together in a burrito bag. There is safety in numbers.
  23. @BobL I've flown it more than a little, but not a lot. It's always been on 50'-50# lines. In 1 or 2 mph wind you can fly without moving your feet much. If you are willing to walk it (fast walk), it will fly in nothing. Typically, I get bored of that really fast and pack it up for the day.
  24. What kite is it for?
