PS~ I've seen Lam Hoac fly for years and the intensitiy which he competed with to create the world class flyer that he is was remarkable. With his credentials, Lam knows he can fly and when he doesn't compete with that same intensity, he is being kind to others. That's my humble opinion.. Tks. ~BB Penny

It did get better. Woo Hoo~ I took First- that 's 1st Place in Hot Tricks. lol I did not see that one coming. My heart was racing so fast before the first hot tricks competition, that I was almost worn out before I started. For anyone that doesn't know, hot tricks is a competition that puts kite flyer against kiteflier in elimination rounds generally voted on by audience's. Any thing goes.. and some of the things I've seen probably shouldn't be written about. lol. After the first round against Paul DeBaker, I was so exhausted, I thought "I'm ready to concede". But I took first and that moved me into the next round with a little rest between flies. Lam Hoac took 1st place in his round whick meant I would have to fly against Lam. Once again, I was ready to concede. lol Luckily I had that rest, and by the end of the 2nd round, I was ready for one more try.. but it was over. Now I've taken 2nds and 3rds in hot tricks indoor and out, but this was the first time I've ever took 1st place in Hot Tricks! Woo Hoooo! Someone said, Penny, it was the blindfolded flying that took you over the top. (I heard it was a close vote) Bud said it was the jump roping the kite that did it for me. Personally, I think it was laying down and flying my Indoor Revolution for about 4 passes.. I was impressed! I usually only get several passes with it. lol Scott Slater discovered a new move and helped me to find out how to make it happen. Two stringers may already do this. (Scott's not an indoor flier either) With the Rev laying back down, leading edge away from you so you are reading "Revolution across. I can pop this kite up on short lines.. I can take longer lines and slide my kite across the floor from behind me and jump over it and pop it up to fly it.. What I couldn't do is pop it up and fly it on those long lines without pulling and jumping it behind me. What was different? It was getting a little puff of air under the Rev. I was trying to pull it forward for a puff launch, but it didn't alway work. Scott pointed out if I pulled back to slide it to me lightly just to get that tiny puff of air under it, I could then pop it up. It works, even on longer lines! If you all aren't doing that already.. we'll call it the "Puff". So much fun at this festival! Scott Davis and the Long Beach Mueseum are excited. Scott is putting together a DVD for various places to promote indoor kite flying, what it takes to put on an event, what you get out of the event. How the windless festival has evolved. Scott interviewed participants and maybe audiences. Great idea and follow through. It's about time and with Bryan Davis and other's video from the weekend it should be awesome. We did put on the Cat N Hat skit. Lam was Thing 1 and Paul was Thing 2. Yup, great sports. Yes, they put on the red shirt & blue wig causing havoc with the audience with their 2 string kites. Of course I didn't get to see what they did, but people said it was great and I heard laughing and clapping. I hope someone took some video of it. Valerie flew a rainbow ribbon for it, Jennifer Brown was a Cindy Lou Who and helped the kids with their butterflies while flying a diamond. Christian Slater was my grinch.. I love to get him in my routines. Bud Hays was Sam I am. Still the best one still. Allen Cunningham.. yeaaah~ he flew a bird, or two as Max the dog~ I can picture it in my head, and I know it was great. Brenda and Maxine two young ladies from the audience flew butterflies and I'm sure they were glad of Jen's help if the tails got crossed. Fun, fun fun! Wow, I've got to go.. I wish I could write more.. We met Kelly and Matt, Theresa, Bella, Emma, Caty and Ben, and more who will all take this kiting experience home with them and share it with others. I told them not to be surprised if their friends didn't believe them.. They can't fly kites in no wind! I'm exhausted.. Thank you everybody.. especially the organizers and wooker bees.. They did a wonderful job.. Wow.... Windless Kite Festival.and the Kite Museum all in the same weekend. Life is good... Penny~who's still stoked because she finally took 1st in Hot Tricks..

I believe the designer(s?) are Paul DeBaker and Hunter Brown.. I could be wrong and it was only Paul.....who... took First Place last night in the Windless Indoor Kite Festival with that kite. Lam Hoac 2nd, Jerry Cannon 3rd. Enjoy Wen, if you need help, I'm sure Paul will get you through it. I wonder if he uses weights on it? Kewl kite and flyer. BB Penny

Day one at Windless Indoor Kite Festival and there are some novice kitefliers working those kites! From a young man, Eli who looks to be about 8yrs old. Christian, 15 yrs, Matt who looks to be in his late 20's to that old man Scott Slater.. who's well, older then I am. or not . lol In any case, it was great watching the people out on the floor working it, trying to focus on keeping a kite balanced on strings, with no wind... and other flyers all around. I saw no crashes. Scott Davis and the Museum put on a lovely Italian potluck where the food was scrumptious, but more importantnly-it was held in the Long Beach Museum. I wanted to linger and do the whole tour, but it was a long day, so to avoid Steve's "Toss Penny" over my shoulder and go exit, I headed for the door. Not before catching some glimpes of old signal kites, Sam Cody history, Japanese and posters boards filled with pictures of past events and workshops. Wow, as a kiter I feel such a part of the history of the museum.. and I so had nothing to do with it (except a few small donations), but it is our heritage. I want to go back. Ok, It's late... We're closing down. A few went to fly till 9:30. I figure it will be crowded and they will have fun. We'll do it all again tomorrow, only better. BB Penny

I've added 8 events to the calendar up through Oct. 08. Check it out. We still need League events put on, and John, what is wrong w/posting IQuads events on the calendar, other then time? At least 3 of the events are indoors on the West Coast. No excuses not to fly in the winter. BB Penny
-
Ok, I've done my part. I've added 8 events to the calendar. Few of them are league events, so please, someone in the league get your information on the calendar. I might post on craigs list too. Someone did in Camas, and we actually had people show up after seeing it. Great idea for single parents looking for activities, etc. BB Penny... looking for more events to play at.

Allen Cunningham has not been in to add his event to the Calendar yet . Hopefully, he'll get to that soon. Just in case.. The indoor festival is Feb 16-17th. All the information you need will be at : <a href="http://honkernet.net/visitarlington/UPTHERIVERKITES.htm" target="_blank">http://honkernet.net/visitarlington/UPTHERIVERKITES.htm</a> We've seen some new fliers come out of this small town event and watched the kids growing up. Sushi? There might be suchi at Allen's too. See you there! BB Penny Lingenfelter ~ go check out a few pics on www.myspace.com/penny_lingenfelter If you know anyone not named in the pics, please let me know. Tks!

http://honkernet.net/visitarlington/UPTHERIVERKITES.htm Arlington Indoor Kite Festival is a go. I hadn't heard anything about it, and with the Mayor's controversity, thought maybe Allen Cunningham was going to forgo it this year. Not so! The mayor will even be judging. February,16-17th in Arlington, OR. When I emailed Steven with the info, I asked him why we liked this event so much? His only answer, "it must be the people." See you there. BB Penny

Way Kite Kewl.. Are you sure we shouldn't change your name to "Tony the Tiger, or Tony the Flyer" My right shoulder is soar from indoor flying. I didn't fly this weekend to get it back in shape for tomorrow. 5 days of fun flying stretched it a bit I guess. Glad to hear you are ok. I'll bet it is fun. BB Penny

What should a kite like this be able to do?
Penny Lingenfelter replied to Will S's topic in Indoor Flying
I can't fly them, but I enjoy just looking at them, or watching others fly them. They look good~ BB Penny -
Camping on the Washington Coast....Long Beach area
Penny Lingenfelter replied to SKITCH's topic in Off Topic
What do you do? Wildwood park in Long Beach, on Sandy Rd? From the go-carts head east, the road t's.. that's the one.. not positive on the name. Take a Right. It's about a 1/4 down the rd. on the R. Down a long drive way. There's trees and that would break the wind. If you go to far, the road will T again and you take two rights and your back where you started. Did I confuse you? You need to meet the fool. Andy, kiteflying fool... nice kite flyer and a hell of a cook with a nice kite camp spot w/hot tub and other amenities. Nice guy, pretty clean crowd. His place is a little up the road from Long Beach. Good luck w/both. BB Penny -
hahahaha The post made me laugh. Probably because I can picture it. Ant? You ok? You didn't break anything? An arm, a neck? I've seen men twice your size go down in to much wind in a milisecond. Are you going to share what happened with 3 in 17 mph? Hope you're ok Anthony. I'll go look at the pic now... BB Penny ~picturing in her mind the picture of Ant with a cast on his arms.

They've been in business quite some time and there was a great club for years up there. Hoepfully someone with some vision will buy it and build a strong kiting community. I've been to a few of their flies over the years. They have fields, and beach and if you can get on base there are indoor fly venues. Good luck Erv. BB Penny

Hey Skitch, Yes, I do have duct tape in my van.. But it was parked pretty far away on a rainy night. Super glue? Awww.no.. NO No no super glue. Picture this: A houseful of kitefliers at the beach.. 2 AM and everyone is asleep, but kite fanatics, Penny and Sharon. We're making repairs. Or, I'm making repairs and Sharon is humoring me. In any case... oh yes, we were making miniatures.. I ended up with 3 sticks and 6 fingers all glued together. All my clothes on and no finger nail polish remover, no stores open. We tried mouthwash, bianca spray.. anything we could find. lol What finally did it was perfume.. 1 spray and a few skin cells would come apart with out coming off. Not much perfume left in the bottle. I slipped quietly into bed, not waking Steve.. but the stink did! I try to avoid super glue. I thnk I need to duct tape my finger. I have band-aids in the van, too. See you at Long Beach? BB Penny oh, kite bag? INdoor.. grab your kite w/lines mp3 player and go. Quite different then the outdoor kite bag.

I was reminded tonight of a safety practice for indoor kitefliers. I put a band-aid on a paper cut on my finger yesterday and didn't think anything about it. When I flew last night, I realized it was actually a line cut.. ouch ..and I cut it again on top of that. Tonight ..ok, so I'm a slow learner...I cut it a 3rd time!!! Triple ouch!!! Not again!! It's got quite the slit, and I don't want an infection. I'll try to be more diligent in taping my fingers for 3D's throws and catches from now on. lol I just thought about it.. I hope people didn't think I was flipping them off when I used my middle finger instead. lol One nice thing about Indoor Rev's is when you have a broken spar the can still be used for some time. I had a rod I used all summer with kids, and adults. It had a few splinters on the end, but was ok..I've actually been flying it for a while. Last night I felt the need for speed, blame it on the music. In any case, the drama, the speed, the pull, it was all to much for the kite. It snapped at the end. Doing what any unprepared kiteflier would do; I ran to the front desk and asked for some scotch tape. I took back a piece rapped it around the spar and Rev'd on! For about 15 min.. when that same piece of music came on and BAM!... That kite was moooooving... VROOM~ then... *snap* It broke again.. Back to the front desk.. please.. another piece of tape? I got another 15 minutes out of the 2nd piece of tape.. darn that music~ Then I took down... But~I went back tonight and had such a fun fly... I'm smiling still. Windless INdoor in 2 weeks....Maybe I'll have a new vehicle by then. BB Penny..

Aww, to bad, we'll miss you. It is a great event. Just wish they'd move it to a larger venue. BB Penny

Indoor practice is ok, and I'm still grateful I can schedule the raquetball court when ever I want, but I need more room for the single handle and the basketball court has been busy every night. On top of that I've been busy for the last month looking for the right vehicle. No, not for work... though I only want one, so it will be used for work too. NO, I told my boss, not for the snow. I refuse to buy 4 wheel drive for the 4 days of snow we might or might not get each year. I'm cautious about driving on the beach by myself, so friends are always around to pull me out. (I've only gotten stuck like once every couple of years, so not really a factor) I just need a good toy box to lock my gear in, a hotel room for days when I'm on my own, and w/ more then 1 1/2 feet wide of a space to share w/Steven when he joins me, my 3 suitcases and kite bags. I'm not ready for a conversion van.. it doesn't really fit my needs. I'm more of a beach bum then that. In fact, I hope to Rhino line what ever I do get. I'm not ready for anything smaller then my Chevy Astro.. Hail the Astro's! It's been a great van. rusty, hand painted leaky home away from home, that never left me on the side of the road van. They quit making them in 05, which is a shame. The Chevy Astro 05 is the last year they were made and the extended cargo would be perfect. The problem is you can't find them w/ under 70,000 + miles on them. So, the Chevy Express Cargo Van is what I like so far. Steve is trying to get me to choose the Uplander. It's smaller, but better mileage. I don't want to go smaller. Ok, that's what I have been doing for the last month. Perfectly good fly weekends spent on my auto search. At first I thought it was fun and spent many hours on the computer. I even thought I could do this for a 2nd job! Now, it's old, and I just want it done and a new van in the driveway. Well, tonight I fly. I'll have to make a decision to get up early in the AM, like anything in life it's hard to do when you’re out of practice. Long Beach Windless Kite Festival is January 19-21, 08. Now there’s a reason to get up at 5 AM to practice for! That's in two weeks!!! See you there. BB Penny

I like this thread. the main reason is all those kites and people on the beach.. The avatars help me make it through the winter. John, I'll check w/my little sister and see if their band is only into religious music or what. She use to do more. How do copyrights work for international music? Techno from a S .American band? BB Penny

Can't the car fly them, while you take a picture of them "in" the air? We're waiting.... Merry Christmas! BB Penny

Our goal is not to die in a freak accident.. Hey, it's good to have goals. Watch it you don't tear that rotary cuff... You'll need them for future flying. BB Penny..

I've redecorated my office. Pics are up under "Penny's office" or a slide show on the front page of www.myspace.com/penny_lingenfelter We're in WA and ready for a wet winter. I'm humming the Beatle's "Octopus's Garden" in preperation for the indoor and outdoor festival in Lincoln City, OR. The theme this year will be Octopus's.. I'm still waiting on the title. The serenity garden is put up.. in my office for the winter. We are enjoying it. Check out the rest of the pictures. I'll try to post one or two here. I have lots of movement over my head, and the jelly fish sets off the wind chimes. Nemo stays in motion and the green seaweed waves when the air comes on. I luv it. Tako Kichi~ Thanks Scott Spencer and Premier Kites for this. BB Penny

Try Theresa <www.thekiteshoppe.com> Or wind of change.. most kite stores do carry a roll up bag or other types. BB Penny

Hey Scott man! For some reason the old pages didn't come up on that post till later. Thanks Scotty, I have to have things Penny proof... I know where you are coming from. Actually, I already put outdoor caps on my indoor. It's the internal leading edge spars that are grinding on each other. I maybe have to much movement allowed on them? it's the first time I've seen spars grinded down. I sure hope your back is healing and you are in less pain. We're looking forward to seeing you on a field, any field, or indoor. BB Penny What did I miss? In english? What can you do for us? Hi Ben, I am wearing my indoor rods on the ends. Not at the caps, but on the spar over the ferrel. It's grinding, like caps on cement. Would there be something we coud coat these with that would keep it from happening. They do get a bit of fly time, so I 'm not complaining. Sorry, this is probably off topic.~ Are you saying that a 2 wrap should fly ok in 13 mph wind on a 1.5? BB Penny~ who really should email you. Hi Penny, On my Street Kites, I put a rubber /vinyl end cap and when they wear out I just replace they work great they are cheap and when your indoor they land soft and they hold /stick to a hardwood gym floor instead of slide out It has worked for years of flying in the streets and indoor flying for me it's provin I call it Scott proof . I have a nick name in true Rhode Island Slang "SPLINTA" I say if your not breaking em your not flyin em so the little rubber/ vinyl end caps work great Thresa knows abot em if not I can let here know so you can get them from her! hope this helps

Merry Christmas Connor, We know kites keep us happy. Finding lost kites must make you estatic. We'll be glad to see you out there flying them. Merry~Merry Christmas. BB Penny
