lol You two! They are close as family. "Rev fliers". Awww geee. Maybe we should make a new word. Something they would like. I really want to call them something like experienced Rev fliers. BB Penny

You can hardly ruin an Indoor Rev. Even if they get old, they still fly. Broken spar~ replace it, and the indoor kite has no mesh leading edge to have to sew on so they are wonderfully durable. As long as you stay off of sharp objects, away from electrical wires, stay away from wind and out of the water they will last many many years and be a great flying kite. I like saying that... stay out of the wind and the kite will fly great. They may even stay pretty since their indoors. I’m excited~we're going to be flying in Ann Arbors, Michigan October 6th in no-wind and possible no wind spots. Outdoors surrounded by buildings. I'm excited to see what that brings as well as seeing Lam and Scott again and some of the other activities we get to be a part of. BB Penny

What do we call Revolution kitefliers who have not competed? (yet) Friends of mine are like many people that have been flying Rev.'s for over 4 years and don't feel the word "beginner" is a fitting title. They have never competed, so they are not ranked as; novice, experienced, etc. I would rate them as novice -to – experienced, since they don't feel they can hold a reverse diagonal up in one direction. (We're going to look at the kite, but since it works otherwise I just think it's the pilot not being firm enough.) Lots of people will fly Rev's 100 hours over time, but aren't ranked. Is a “rookie” appropriate? I thought that was a one year ranking in competition. Anyone have any ideas? BB Penny ~not calling friends beginners.

I don't think so. I have the 3rd prototype and it's different. My indoors did not have bundgee on the tops. I did keep the bundgee on the bottom and sides. I'm ok now. BB Penny

Michigan Kite Show Oct. 6th.
Penny Lingenfelter replied to Penny Lingenfelter's topic in Scheduled Events
I do mean Scott Weider~ that man. Enjoy convention Theresa. I can't wait till it comes to Ocean Shores. I just found out I'll be wearing a dress and top. hehehe Now that's something not all kitefliers can do.... not all.. Egan Davis maybe... but he's got to shave! BB Penny -
"Details are quickly coming together for the kite event at the University of Michigan for the ground-breaking of the new Mott Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Our kite flying teams will arrive in Detroit end of the day Wednesday October 4. We will have rehearsals on Thursday October 5 with everyone in the cast and perform on Friday October 6. Departures will take place late evening on Friday or Saturday morning October 7. The one hour ground-breaking (media) event will take place before noon followed by 3 (15 to 20 minute) performances in a grassy courtyard surrounded by the existing hospital buildings. Approximate show times are 1:30 PM, 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Our teams will give away 10,000 commemorative kites to hospital and university employees, family members, general public and patients. We will also tour the hospital floors visiting immobile patients in their rooms to perform small demonstrations with mini-kites and give away commemorative kites. Our performances will be improvisations done to pre-recorded music selected by our clients. No individual solos. Everyone will be costumed by our company for the ground-breaking, hospital visit, kite give-aways and the shows. Please send your pants and t-shirt sizes as well as chest and waist measurements for our costume department to work with." This event that the Parks are putting on, sounds fabulous. They are brining in Lam, Scott Weiderman, me, a team, and a few others. I can't wait! I don't even have to dress myself! I thought about contacting some fliers and seeing if something was going on in Michigan this weekend, but it's convention week. Any kitefliers going to be in the area? BB Penny

Anthony, Without looking at my indoor, did the top caps come with bundgee on them? BB Penny I can't believe I've got to look.

Does “The GARDEN” Have A Meaning?
Penny Lingenfelter replied to Scott E. Spencer's topic in The Web Site (nuts and bolts)
My indoor flying gives my soul such a lift~ especially the single handled Rev. flying. It's not so much the feeling that I've become one with the kite, it's more I've become one with the music and the kite is my interpretive dance. It brings me unimaginable joy. Scott, please come back and post again for us. I enjoy reading your post. I'm not sure when we first met, but I will always think of you sitting in your lawn chair strategically placed in the parking lot at Lincoln City. That's one way to greet people! BB Penny~ Looking forward to the sky aquarium. -
My preferred way of cleaning would be to go back to the beach, rinse it off in the ocean and fly it till it's dry. BB Penny ~ reaching for the hose to get the salt off of her kite.

That's even to kewl for a bumper sticker Chris! BB Penny

I put short sliding knots on the top of the handles and left one a little longer then the other. It seemed easier to turn and I had some reverse back. Still not enough reverse for my liking. The part I will need to practice on this year is up on tip. that's the leading edge facing 3 or 9:00 and going up in that position. Trying to figure out what it takes, may take a bloodymary and a rev shaped dollar bill. It's not how much up that I give the bottom handles. Oh, and the bottom handles facing 9:00 would be the left handle on the one handed handle. It appears how much pressure I give it. My turns are pressure points too. If you think you’re confused, imagine how confused I am!!!!~ Well, practice, practice, practice.... that's what makes this kite so fun. BB Penny

Sorry Anthony, I started to reply and got side tracked. You know, your going to make me have to look at my indoor. I'm wondering if the bundgee didn't fly off, or did it ever have bundgee on the top? I've pieced the replacements as I go... gosh... it flies. No matter how you put the outdoor caps on it, I doubt if you regret it. BB Penny

Wow, we haven't been in here since July. Now it's September and time to get back indoors.. Woo Hooo! I'm excited. So today I packed up my cd player, camcorder, New Cat in the Hat costume, An Indoor Revolution, a 1.5 Revolution, and a single line UFO and my purse. That's a lot of stuff to pack into the gym, but I managed it in one trip. I took video of of my new music with the 1.5 and then the Indoor Rev. to try and figure out which one might work best. Darn, that Indoor sure is lighter and easier, but it just doesn't move as quick as that 1.5 Rev. I'll probably go witht he 1.5 which will leave me with more room for error. When an MC says she fly's light kites inside, I want to hollor, "It is not!" It's usually the 1.5 which takes more ~ I'm not sure of the right word. Control? Lift? Effort? Strength? Compared to the Indoor. We make it fly effortlessly, but it's NOT a light kite! lol I spent some time at mom's looking at the video and figuring out a way to make my cat in the hat head stable. It's a little wobbly. This routine is turning out cute. The UFO in no wind will be a fun part of this routine. There is nothing about this routine that would be legal in competition, unless I squeezed in innovatiove or free style. Not sure it would fit there either. Nope, probably a touch to long. Oh well, I'm going to have a lot of fun with it in show. Ralph is looking at making me handles that swivel so I can try single handle with movement in the handles. It would make flying two Rev's inside at once easier. We'll see what he comes up with and if I can get to it. It was so gooood to be indoors again and I flew to a couple of old routines and just some songs for pleasure. I love winter kite flying. BB Penny

Awesome Amy and Kite Head. Luv them both. The multi colored kite circle w/the black Iquad figure would look great with the "I quad, therefor I am" and Amy... just awsome. There can be a tie right? We can have choices of two shirts? BB Penny

You guys brought back some great memories of kites laying all over hotel rooms drying. Imagine what a group of kitefliers rooms look like after flying in wet weather. Bet a few of you smile when you think about a lot of wet kites drying. BB Penny

For an adjustment line, say 6" as an example. It can be shorter or longer, deepening on your preference. Slip the line through the top of your handle and lay them side by side. (You can use your forefinger as a brace while you practice) We'll call this our 1st. Loop even though it's not knotted at the bottom. 1) Looking down at the two parallel lines, take the right line under and over the left line. 2) Take the right line under and over the right line again. It should now have two small loops over the left line. 3) Take the right line through the back of Loop 1. (Between the handle and the knot you're making. Kind of like the through the rabbit hole, but backwards) 4) Take that right line over the first small loop and under the second small loop that you made with the right line over the left line. Pull it snug. When pressure is on it, it stays in place. When pressure is released, it slides. Your line holds it on spot. Sliding your line off the knot a little allows you to slide the knot. Much easier then adjusting knots, even with a pigtail on your lines for a quick pull and slide. I like to put a security knot on the end of my left line. It will keep the knot from sliding off, should the knot slide down. Sam Ritter taught us that at Nationals one year. He fly's stacks of Rev's . It's a great knot for Rev.'s. It's my kite's gears. This knot is easily adaptable to the loop that I've seen coming out with the new Rev.’s in the North West. Everyone says it's like the Prussic (?) The right line goes under and over the left line twice and up through the back of the top loop and through the second small loop. Hope that helps. Somewhere there will be info and pictures of this knot with only 5 sentances. Someone else want to explain? Try it, it’s great. BB Penny

? Who's Rob? What's a haxors? Anthony, ~It's not hard to replace the indoor rev caps w/outdoor ones at all. In fact, I didn't even use bungee, just 90 lb line and tied them on. As long as they are even, it should not be a problem. I find no difference in it's flying characteristics. Of course, that's me. But if you do fly your indoor a lot, you risk the chance of the cap coming off. The knot slips thru the indoor cap. Have a great weekend! BB Penny

there are a lot of great ideas coming in. I really like the "I Quad, there for I am" How about that w/the multi colored rev logo from John? BB Penny

I've replaced all my indoor caps with outdoor caps as they've given out on me, flown away during a fly, etc. I don't like the indoor caps. It is the weakest link. BB Penny

Why does Rev not put them on the handles? Because they are not absolutely necessary. You can lower and raise your hands on the handle to change it and many people don't use adjustments at all. The new Rev.'s I saw last weekend actually had a large loop on the handles. I showed a few fliers how to undo the knot, put in a slide knot and of course they both went "Wow". Even though they had been flying fine, the kite reacted much better. Tom, from Victoria did one better. He undid the knots on the bottom sleeving and did a slide knot, (prussic?) type knot in the sleeving. Hence he did away with the loop completely. Not bad, though it might actually be harder on the line and sleeving this way. Once they changed to a slide knot on the loops that came with the Rev. 1.5 handles it gave them twice as much choice for their settings. The slide knot, or adjustment knots also make equalizing your lines easy when they are stretched out and you need to shorten that line, you do it right at the handle. BB Penny

Call one of the kite stores, if you can in your area is good. Support your local kite store, but it doesn' hurt to price others to make sure you like their prices. Check out the sponsors on the front of kitelife and try one. They will all be great. Hmm, professionl, ultra light, Super ultra ligth spar kits maybe? I don't surf much. Good luck. BB Penny ~ getting ready to kick it inside.

I think it's on Tuesday of Kitelife's daily updates @ WSIKF that there is a picture of Todd, Me, Monkey Boy and J.D. playing with our 4 Rev.'s together. I know I'm being broad with the ages, but it's like there is an 18, 28, 38 and 48 yr. old in that picture. It's a pretty amazing sport when all ages can play so well together. BB Penny

You have an EXP. Worry about a bridle later. You can larks head 12 ft. lines though the vertical caps and learn to no wind fly. Very doable as is. Lighter spars would help, and an indoor definitely be easier. But the length of line makes a huge difference too. Every few feet makes a difference. 10-12 ft. work good. The longer the line, the slower it is. Lots of practice, but everytime you go back it's easier. It's time to head indoors. BB Penny

I've been flying the UFO with lights at night... fun! the same lights will go on my rev. 4 for $1.00 at the six star. I opened them up and checked them at the store, that way I exchanged the ones that weren't working right then and there. It's fun, and Laurel's 5 yr. old grandson, Jeffrey, flew it outside at the Up Your Wind Pacific Beach Kite Festival dinner. The lights took a beating and Jeffrey would flip them on if they were turned off. BB Penny

This is the 14th Annual "UP YOUR WIND" Pacific Beach Kite Festival. It's Sat. and I believe Sun. Usually we see a few Canadians and Eastern WA kitefliers at this event. Yeah! There's no real competition, though the Hi-Fliers Kite Shop has sponsored envelopes w/meals at restaurants, cash, etc. They send kids out and say, "Find your favorite kite" and they give the owner an envelope. Last year I sat at quite the winning table. They came away w/lots of cash! It's a laid back, no competition, pat yourself on the back, it was a wonderful season kind of kite festival. We'll see those that aren't competing at Seaside there. Pacific Beach, WA up the coast about 10 minutes from Ocean Shores. BB Penny
