Thank you.. yeah, it's my b-day and I'm stuck here till after work... ok, I'll take the wind.. great gift~ not really necessary, but as I've gotten older I've learned to accept gifts. I got it. We just got back from the fair. I'll try to pack it in my van to take with. 29 again! hehehe I'll have to change the year of birth to adjust it for next year. Have a great weekend. BB Penny

Daily updates from WSIKF!
Penny Lingenfelter replied to John Barresi's topic in News from the Webmaster
hey, I was there Mon- thru Wed. PM and the pictures do not even begin to do the event justice. I'm with Grandpa..... video... or in my case, I better get back there and quit missing all the fun! BB Penny -
I use the blast handles on my Rev. II and they are great. Hey, that's Rev flying... What ever works! BB Penny

Thanks Theresa, lol I'm not sure a couple will do it. I have several UFO's. The stainless steel (?) ones that came with it didn't break. They popped off never to be seen by my bad eyes again. Since then I've learned to tape or glue them on and to avoid soft aluminum. I guarantee you, if you bring them, you can probably help people out-maybe even me if I continue to have no luck. I have been trying to find a long piece to cut before I leave. Home Depot, NaPa, Small engine store, and 2 hobby shops earlier today and nothing! Now I'm just sweaty and hungry. I'll try looking for it in brass. We have been asking for it in any material besides copper and rubber. Tks you two. .122 or .125 brass. BB Penny~mumbling under her breath.

I do to. Except I'd rather have short handles on the Rev. II, but usually don't. The main reason I use the long throw handles, is to save my wrists. Less movement of your wrist to control the kite means less chance I'll develop carpal tunnel syndrome. BB Penny

Hi Theresa, Are you out there this morning? What did you say the UFO ferrel was? A .22? I went to hobby and hardware stores. I have to check Home Depot at lunch. Otherwise, I've got to get off early to get to the welding/pipefitting store before they close. Any info in the right direction would be appreciated. Tks! Penny

I've a short stake for rocky ground too. I also have one of Arnolds stakes. So Arnold I'll be looking for you and Rory at L.B. BB Penny

Lucky you Tristan. We will see you there. Be sure and say hello.. I'm Tristan. I think it's been so long since I saw you last, I won't recognize you. So will you be competing at the indoor? T-I'm not sure what day I'll go to Sunset. If it wasn't for friends in WA, I might sneak down earlier. I've a call out to Eli to find out what the buggiers have planned. I want to say hello to them.. and buggy. That and my buggy makes a great basket for carting kites to and from the beach. Theresa -Do you buggy? Will buggying be allowed at L.B. with permits? I wonder. Woo hoo! Just 3 more days!

I tried parking lot flying once in the past. Why not, my friends had done it. Hmm, the big drawback~ No where to stake your lines down to while you go fix the kite. The wind wisked my kite away, onto the roof, 2 ft. under electrical wires and I found myself standing on top of my van with a rev pole trying to coax my kite off of the roof without flipping onto the elctrical lines and saying.."God, I'm not having fun anymore" Whew, I was lucky. didn't have to call the fire department. Walked across the parking lot to have a rum and coke and think about the follies of my way. **Oh yeah, my friends broke an almost indestructible Rev. 1 spar on the driveway or the rocks, or something that was hard and unforgiving. What was I thinking? (that I wanted to fly now) I stayed away from parking lots for years after that. If I fly on concrete it's usally w/a field next to it that I can at least stake down the kite. Good luck. BB Penny

JD you wanted a custom rev. Why didn't you make it all white and paint it? It looks great.. It looks like a rev. BB Penny

Where are you camping at Theresa? Wildwood? I'll be in the overflow part of the week. I get to be a kite gypsy for a week! yeah!!!! Westport, Ocean Shores, Long Beach, Sunset. I have to squeeze them all in. ~Oh, and I have a new routine that just fell together. I might even get the local clubs to be my do wop dancers. Now I can't wait for next year! Let Long Beach come~ Let the summer be over~ That just means more time to fly inside. BB Penny

Good morning~ When I make lines I use a magic marker. Whether on a board, or stretched out I'll hold all 4 lines together, mark them across with the marker at least 6 inches from the end. I use the mark as the spot where I fold the line to create the end loop. tying a knot where ever I want. 4-8" down. The mark is now the end of my line. The loop is larks headed on to the handles or bridle of the kite. Making release knots makes life much easier. A short string w/overhand knot to make it a little circle to larks head onto the loop. When you go to take the line off of your kite, you tug on the little loop and it loosens the large loop. This is ssooooo much easier then using your teeth, or sand grinded fingernails. I wish I put release knots on all my kites. BB Penny

Thanks John I can do it. But prefer clock turns and I'm open enough to state it. Now if anyone else has any problems they'll know. Anti? Anti was a new one for me. "Counterclockwise" we'd use. See what a learning experience kiteflying is. Hey MONK!!!!! Is it all good after you got back from Orting? BB Penny
-
What is with the f90 degree anticlockwise? Isn't it easier to call face 9:00 anit-clockwise, or pivot clockwise, etc.? The reason I say this is because of past experiences where people who didn't know what a 360 counter clockwise or 90 degree clockwise, was, or where it started from.. ie. facing 12:00 or where we're facing down, did NOT speak up to say they did not understand. We found the clock movement's much more user friendly. Just a suggestion. I can fly, or get out of the way. Oh, and someone remind me to put some rum in my cooler.

Back at you. It was a fantasic event. The people in the crowd there are amazing. The flyers, the get togethers. Whew!! Did we have fun or what?! To bad you can't make it to WSIKF. It's a big party. I'm going to be a kite gypsy for almost a whole week. Ocean shores, Westport, Long Beach, Sunset. I don't know how I'm going to fly it all... but I'm going to try. You might reconsider this festival. BB Penny

Hey John, Will there be pre posted flight patterns? BB Penny

Hey, someone better have me on that list and 120" feet of line to borrow. I'm not cutting down my 200 ft. lines. BB Penny

Tons of new Kitelife gear...
Penny Lingenfelter replied to John Barresi's topic in News from the Webmaster
Any interest in my"Life's a Beach and then you fly" ? We still need an indoor one. BB Penny -
Had John? lol Had? Life is more sweet with a few embarrasssing moments in it. Like John and Monkey's dance off routines this weekend.. Forget the kites! They had to do 30 seconds of dance on the field. Pointing and laughing was deservedly allowed, no encouraged. Ewwww, John I'm not sure you should ever wear that shirt again! Way to shake it Johnny boy. Monk, the only reason I'm not giving you a bad time is because we missed your 30 seconds of fame. but you won, so you probably slapped your bottom a few times. BB Penny

Kind of like the Brookings festival buy all of us kitefliers a drink. This is one great sport. BB Penny
-
Go Browser! You know, you can try flying with your hands down lower for more balance. It can make it easier to turn the bottom of the handles "up". Are you coming to Long Beach? We would be happy to try your kite and handles. BB Penny

I don't think I set a very good example with lines. If I took the time to put my lines away correctly, I'd put the first set of line, with end loops larks headed together through the hole in my winder and then connect it to the top. The second set comes through the hole from the other direction and is connected. Winding tight is important and here's where I go wrong. Wrapping a rubber band or bundgee around the lines and handles to hold them on spot. In real life I rarely secure the lines and handles. My lines usually bounce and swing and wrap around with the handles on and it's still not to bad of a mess..... unless line comes off, or it tangles with other line. Ouch... broken knuckls? Ouch! Take out your aggressions in the sky. BB Penny
