  1. I thought I was being original but it seems the white kites, Ghost and Zen are popular Autograph kites..
  2. For those in the path of the storm, please stay safe and live to fly again. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
  3. What's the shortest viable stack interval for full sail 1.5's. I know the standards and the guidelines but how short is too short a distance between kites? I'm looking to make a very tight stack of 3 and I'm hoping to avoid some experimentation.. I assume I could get a tighter stack if I went with progressive venting.
  4. Maybe but not sure. My SUL Ghost doesn't have SLE on it.. But you are right, The Bridling looks very SUL-ish.. Nice Kite..
  5. You should buy what you like. The Vented B Series is a nice kite indeed. I don't think you'll find anyone with anything bad to say about @John Barresi's contribution to the Rev line of kites. He advanced them a long ways in design and functionality. The topic start here was, there are other options beginning to gain more acceptance in the community.. Once the first of the year rolls around, the B Series will no longer be available from Rev. They are already posturing a new product but alternatives are now numerous.. This was about gathering speculation on the alternatives.. sort of a preemptive "Alternatives to the Rev" threads we see every so often. With The changes at Rev, and other offerings available from different directions, I wanted to get into the thought processes of those like yourself considering another quad for whatever reason..
  6. I agree with you Rob (both Rob's in fact) Rev kind of burned me with the Green Trim Rod change and drop in quality there. I can't see myself ever buying a new Rev again with the exception of Eliot Shook's offerings. (you get to choose your Frame with Eliot so I can avoid the GT standard rods..) I'd consider a 75% mesh to go with my 40%. I'm not opposed to buying used though. I want to fly a Phoenix before making a choice or comment on that one. Already ordered 4 Freilein Vertigos and they'll be on the way soon. (3 for a stack and one Max just 'cause I like the look..)
  7. The landscape for quads is changing fast. The JB series' only have a few more months of production. The B Pros already are undergoing a new builder and all of the current ones out there will be hoarded with good reason by those that own them. A Bazzer Pro B series won't hit the secondary market very often if at all. The Randy Tom (speculated) kites will have a following all their own. Printed sails are becoming the norm from Rev. Bazzer has his own kite, The Phoenix Pro, already making inroads into the quad community. Freilein is making serious waves both in quality and pricepoint. Rev has counter with the Reflex touting it as "THE" kite to have. The Rev alternatives threads will soon be seeing answers other than "a used Rev" What will you be flying in a year? In two years? What's the next quad you buy? Original posted edited to reflect listing: (so far)
  8. One I had recently said "A Broken Cookie lies before you" Wish I could make it down.. Would love to fly a bit in that area.. Was my Summer haunt when i was growing up..
  9. There's a few great topics on the Reflex in the Quad Heads section.. I'd suggest checking those out before purchasing anything.. Reflex is a great sail. Also a great teaching tool. It is also a very forgiving kite and easy to learn on but then at that point you've only learned the Reflex. Despite Rev's steering everyone towards the Reflex as their "everything " kite it bears to know that the differences can impact flyers long term If you start with any other Rev 1.5 sail, you'll be able to adjust your flying either way, up and down the Rev Line to include the Reflex.. You'll also be able to better understand and appreciate the sail AND frame differences. If you've ONLY flown the Reflex, you might be in for a surprise when you grab the handles on an SUL or 1.5. It is different.. You might just yank a normal 1.5 out of the air before you adjust and get the hang of it.. The cost factor applies here as well. There's a reason there's so many threads about Rev Alternatives. You have to scroll down the page if you look up quadline kite on Amazon. I bought a HQ Kites Mojo trying to avoid the investment of a Rev. I still fly the Mojo because its twitchiness makes me correct my flying before I go between the Foils and a Rev. That being said, learning on one of the highest cost kites in the current production line is kind of like taking first driving lessons in a Corvette ZR6. Maybe not the best of ideas Face it, replacement rods and parts for the Reflex aren't nearly as easy to locate as the standard 1.5 stuff. It takes a bit for anyone "even a natural" to get the hang of it and most of us have cracked a spar at some point haven't we?.

  12. Woolite is a mild Surfactant.. I use a very mild solution to clean my powerkites.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfactant As for retreating, I've read recommendations for treating Fluorescent colors with Armour All to deter fading.. I've also read (but not sure I support) Scotch Guard.. I haven't used either method myself.
  13. Depends on what substance it is stained with AND how the fabric is coated and or protected.. Step 1 Consider how badly you want the stain removed.. Can you live with it?.. Step 2 Reconsider Step 1. Step 3 If you MUST clean it at all costs, most importantly, be as gentle with your fabrics as possible. You might be in a situation where if it will clean the material it will also strip the coating.. Start with as mild a solution of something like Woolite as possible and work from there. Don't use anything with a fabric softener or similar.. Also, make sure you don't scrub as the friction will remove your coatings faster than it would remove your stains.. Good luck

    New Rev

According to Lolly, Yes, they are planning a vented version.. At the time of the conversation though, this particular kites wasn't discussed..
  15. Sad News, I realize it not the same lines we typically use but it does emphasize why we cordon off the demo fields at many events http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/17/asia/india-kite-deaths/index.html http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/08/18/glass-coated-kite-string-kills-3-people-in-indias-capital.html
  16. Just to mark the KiteLife Forums milestone. Post #55,000!!! Congratulations @John Barresi on a most excellent resource for Kiters everywhere..
  17. I play with 30's all the time.. Love the quickness..
  18. does the length start affecting the kite response too much and how much sag and lag do you get with 250's?
  19. Convert a Symphony 2.2 to quad.. Flies plenty fast and stunts IMO better than the Smithi...
  20. Thank you for sharing this. Nice work and very solid approach to a repeatable process..
  21. I know the standards are 80' and 120' and everything in between.. Shorter for tight areas and fast flying.. What's the longest lineset you use practically? Anyone fly a Rev on 200+ foot lines? Thinking about buying some bulk lines and considering making a 250-ish quad set before I chop them down to 120's
  22. Stacks are indeed fun and can generate quite a bit of power as well.. I'll have to take a pic but I used the bags my Boleros came in to make a stack form for them .. Holds all nine flat. I did have to get a bigger vehicle though..
