The old (2006) vented 1.5's were ripstop/mylar sails... Dig up some photos. I wouldn't replace the existing mylar panels with venting, not good a good layout. The two vertical strips on either side really do seem to work best.

No wrath here. Everybody flies what they like!

Acrobatx is definitely tricker, better with flat spins and advanced "slack line" stuff, but I got more broken spars and a smaller wind range with it. But, the Techno offers better lift in light winds, is quite a bit tougher, and offers better over all stability. I like both, but if I'm looking to learn slack line tricks, the Techno won't take me far enough. Click here for excellent tutorial examples of "slack line" tricks by Randy Greenway. If you don't mind it a little smaller, try the Jump by Level One for about $100... A little bit better full size kite, for $160 is the Silver Fox STD. Those are currently my top picks at those two price points.

I like the Jump by Level One quite a bit, it has a permanent place in my bag... Runs about $100.

Traditionally, between the last and second to last kites, I kept the bottom train lines 1-2" shorter... Seemed to cut down the wobble.

A pigtail is a small loop of line... Cut a 6" piece of line (similar to your bridle material), fold it in half, and tie both the ends together in an overhand knot. This loop is then larks headed onto the spine, above the tip of the tail.
